Early intervention, prevention and community engagement strategy for problem gambling in NSW
A 3 year early intervention, prevention and community engagement strategy was launched by the Minister on 1 April 2009 at the NSW problem gambling counsellor's conference.
The $2.4 million strategy is helping to raise awareness about problem gambling and promote the Gambling Help services.
Key elements include:
- A single Gambling Help brand for all NSW Government-funded face-to-face, telephone and internet counselling services,
- New partnerships to reach problem gamblers when symptoms first emerge,
- Community based activities to increase understanding of problem gambling at a local grassroots level,
- Communication strategies to target at risk groups including ethnic and indigenous communities,
- A range of new educational materials including a 10 minute DVD to dispel myths and superstitions about gaming machines, educational kits and community service messages.
