Independent Review of the Regulatory Oversight of the NSW Racing Industry
Statutory Five Year Review of the Greyhound Racing Act 2002 and Harness Racing Act 2002Mr Malcolm Scott has reported to the Minister for Gaming and Racing on his Independent Review of the Regulatory Oversight of the NSW Racing Industry.
The review examined whether there are adequate powers and procedures in place for the effective and efficient regulatory oversight of the three codes of racing in NSW by their respective industry controlling bodies.
The review consulted with key industry stakeholders including the NSW controlling bodies for racing and received submissions from the public.
In addition, the Government has released the Report of the Statutory Five Year Review of the Greyhound Racing Act 2002 and the Harness Racing Act 2002 (PDF 647kb).
The Minister for Gaming and Racing tabled both reports in Parliament on Thursday 26 June 2008 and has released the reports for public consultation for a period of six weeks ending 15 August 2008.

New Race Field Publication Laws
New regulations for the publication of New South Wales race fields commence on 1 July 2008.
After 1 July 2008, approval must be obtained from the relevant controlling body of racing to publish New South Wales race fields in connection with wagering and certain other purposes.
The controlling bodies of racing in this State are:
A fee will be payable to the controlling body for the approval.
Certain publications, such as publications for not-for-profit social purposes (eg office sweeps or fundraising Calcuttas) and publication by certain racing organisations and media bodies are authorised under the new arrangements.
The offence provisions under the new laws will commence from 1 September 2008 to give applicants and the controlling bodies of racing ample time to manage the initial applications for approval to publish race fields.
