Liquor licence return for calendar year 2009 and later years
The liquor laws require a licensee to lodge a return containing key information about their liquor licence every two years.
A biennial return process strikes a good balance between the need to collect up-to-date information and the need to minimise red tape faced by industry.
The first return was required for the 2009 calendar year, and was due by 31 March 2010. Licensees who have not lodged their return for 2009 must do so.
Through the 2009 return, licensees provided up-to-date details about their licence, including a telephone contact number and an email address. This has enhanced the accuracy of licence information and helps to improve customer contact.
That return also contained questions about licence trading status, trading hours, awareness of licence conditions and undertakings, local council involvement in a licensed venue, liquor accord participation, and contribution to employment and volunteering.
This information has provided important new insights into the overall industry and business environment.
The return for calendar 2009:
- Confirmed if each liquor licence is actively trading and, if not trading, trigger a follow-up process
- Noted actual trading hours for licences in an area
- Familiarised licensees about the conditions applying to their licence
- Collected information about voluntary undertakings to assess if they are still valid
- Provided information about possible overlap between local council development consents and liquor licensing arrangements
- Updated information about the existence of local liquor accords and participation in accords
- Collected information about the value of the liquor industry in employment and volunteer terms.
The return was developed in consultation with peak liquor industry bodies.
