The Licensing Court of NSW

The Licensing Court of NSW has state-wide jurisdiction and deals specifically with applications for the grant of new licences, transfer of licences, breaches, complaints and disciplinary proceedings against licensees. Members of the court are also magistrates under the Local Courts Act 1982.

Under a general delegation, local court magistrates sitting in country regions can deal with specified applications and objections to such applications, including objections to applications that could otherwise be dealt with by registrars. This enables the processing of country applications.

The court also deals with applications for certificates of registration for registered clubs and is responsible for dealing with breaches and disciplinary proceedings arising under registered club laws.

These pages provide essential information on liquor applications, court procedure and lists, licence information, the relevant legislation and practice directions. They are particularly relevant to licensees and potential licensees and people working in the legal profession.
