Extended hotel trading hours

Various days in 2012

Extended trading hours have been approved for hotels and post 1 July 2008 registered clubs for certain Sundays from January to March 2012 which coincide with significant special events. The Sundays which extended trading applies include:

    1. 22 and 29 January – until midnight (instead of 10pm) for venues in the Tamworth Regional local government area only for the Tamworth Country Music Festival;
    2. 29 January – until midnight (instead of 10pm) for the Australian Open Tennis Final; and
    3. 5, 12, 19, 26 February and 4 March – until midnight (instead of 10pm) for the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Series.

The approval allows most hotels and post 1 July 2008 registered clubs to remain open until midnight for on-premises sales and consumption only. It does not permit takeaway liquor sales during the extended trading hours period.

The approval does not override trading hour restrictions imposed by the Director General or the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority (or the former Liquor Administration Board or Licensing Court). Hoteliers and registered clubs should check their licence conditions before deciding to trade until midnight on the days approved.

The approval does not affect restrictions on trading hours imposed by local councils under planning laws.

Hotels that already have extended trading hours approved are not affected by these special arrangements. The approval is contained in the Liquor Amendment (Special Events – Extended Trading Periods) Regulation 2012 made under section 13 of the Liquor Act 2007.
