One of the objectives of the Responsible Gambling Fund is to support research on gambling and the social and economic impacts of gambling in order to better inform the development and implementation of responsible gambling and related policy.

The New South Wales Government provides financial assistance from the Responsible Gambling Fund for projects commissioned by the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) to examine a range of gambling-related issues in New South Wales. Research proposals and reports are reviewed by independent experts in gambling research and research methodology. The views expressed in the reports are solely those of the authors.

The NSW Government also contributes funding to Gambling Research Australia (GRA), which was established in 2001 at the request of the Ministerial Council on Gambling. The aim of GRA is to develop a national gambling research program, based on the Council’s research priority areas, and to create a clearinghouse for gambling research. The GRA website, including a database of gambling research, may be accessed at www.gamblingresearch.org.au Links to external site
