Director of Liquor and Gaming
Director of Liquor and Gaming
The Director is a statutory officer located within OLGR, and is appointed by the Governor. The Director’s powers, responsibilities and obligations under the liquor laws are similar to those of the Police Commissioner.
The Director can initiate investigations, take disciplinary and prosecution action and object to the grant or variation of a liquor licence or certificate of registration.
In addition, the Director can also impose conditions on a licence and make written directions, that require a licensee or staff to address a problem or improve compliance in a venue.
Specific statutory powers also enable the Director to take action in relation to:
- entry curfews for problem venues
- banning undesirable liquor products and promotions
- requiring alcohol advertising to contain RSA style messages
- determining noise complaints against venues
